I love Valentine's Day cards! These colors just make me happy.

I dug out my long-adored, but rarely-used "CUDDLE ANYA" stamp from The Greeting Farm for this one.  She's long since retired, but pops up every now and then.  I stamped her onto watercolor paper and watercolored her with my Distress Ink markers, water, and a paintbrush.  I paper-pieced her hat and added some Distress Ink shading to make it blend with the image.

I followed a color challenge and decided to use the colors as they were shown, in a vertical line, and it looks super cool!  I also used an inspiration photo that led me to use a strip of this woven jute ribbon and a big read heart.

For the HUGS sentiment, I used a die cut alphabet from My Favorite Things and cut the letters from white cardstock that had a strip of pink on the bottom.  I then heat embossed the top sections in gold to make them sparkly.  The tiny gold embossed hearts are from Neat & Tangled's "My Favorite Nut" stamp set.

This little gal is from My Favorite Stamp's Pure Innocence line of stamps, she comes with the "Being Cute Is What I Do" stamp set, and she definitely has the cuteness perfected!

I stamped her onto a die cut watercolor paper panel and painted her with Zig Clean Color Real Brush watercolor markers.  I added some highlights and details with a white ink gel pen.

I used the colors from the current MFT Color Challenge to color the stamped image, as well as to create the starry watercolored background.  I also flicked on some gold Glimmer Mist spray and dotted some white ink circles to make it more spacey.  The sentiment stamps are from the MFT Label Maker Sentiment set. The rest of the card is embellished with some die cut stars and a few iridescent sequins.

{LOVE YOU} A Sign-Language Valentine

** Mom, if you're reading this, look away now! **

Each year, my step-dad asks me to buy or make a card for him to give to my mom on Valentine's day, and other holidays throughout the year.  He is deaf and blind which makes picking out greeting cards difficult (as well as everything else in life) but he trusts me to find or create something my mom will love and appreciate... and who would turn down a request to get crafty?  I love making these cards for him.

This year's valentine card combines my love of crafting with my step-dad's language of love:  American Sign Language (ASL).  The "I LOVE YOU" sign is a combination of the ASL finger-spelled letters 'I' (pinky up), 'L' (pointer finger and thumb out), and 'Y' (thumb and pinky finger out).

When I bought the Paper Smooches {POLISHED} die set, I knew I wanted to use the hand for this exact reason.

I created my background by blending some dye inks onto a die-cut paper panel, then flicked on some drops of water and quickly blotted them up with a paper towel.  I then layered on more dies from Paper Smooches (frame, love word), added a few letter stickers, some diamond Stickles, and a handful of white sequins to finish it off.  The heart is actually a dark pink, but with the stickles on top, the camera made it look red. At least it still works!

I think it turned out pretty cute, and it has some 3D elements that my step-dad will be able to feel with his fingers to get a better idea of what the card looks like.  I hope they'll both enjoy it!

{HAPPY} - a Mixed Media Mish Mash Card

I only had about 30 minutes to sit down and make a card tonight but my hands were itching to get crafty and I just HAD to make something!  I didn't have a plan or an idea in mind, so I grabbed my stash of leftover die cuts and decided to make something with those.

Does everyone have a stash like this?  A sort of "I better save this tiny die cut heart because I just know I'll use it later" stash?  I usually forget all about it, but this card came together so quickly and was so much fun!  I've gotta keep this stash close by from now on.

Once I decided on a layout, I grabbed a kraft card base and messily painted it with white gesso and some red and aqua Glimmer Mists.  I also flicked on some brown/gold Glimmer Mist spray.

I used the same gold Glimmer Mist spray to ink up and distress the brown paper packaging piece that I tore from a kraft vintage newspaper print bag that my crafty order from {TUPELO DESIGNS LLC} came in (as they always do!)  I have so many of these bags now from all of my orders (shhh...) so I'll be using them often, I'm sure!

I then adhered my layered random bits on top.  I made the pleated white rosette background from a tiny paper cupcake/candy liner.  I inked all of the edges in Distress Ink to tie it all together.  The orange-ish colored paper button is actually a pink/peach color and matches the card much better in person. Heh.

I've never made a card so quickly that I actually love! I've got plans to duplicate this card in a few different colors, so watch for those soon.  I'm linking this card up to the following challenge:

{I Choose You VALENTINE} - a Fuse Shaker Tag

I've had my We R Memory Keepers Fuse Tool for quite a while now, but this was the first time using it to make a shaker tag... it won't be the last!  It was too much fun and I'm in love with it!

I used the cutest squirrels-hugging-in-a-giant-acorn stamp from the My Favorite Nut stamp set by {Neat & Tangled}.  I stamped the image onto watercolor cardstock and painted the squirrels.  I then stamped it a second time onto patterned paper, added a few watercolor highlights around the edges, fussy-cut it out, and paper-pieced it onto the die-cut acorn.

I then added it to the tag shape.  I used the Fuse tool around the edges of the tag die onto a cut plastic page protector, slipped in the paper tag, added some sequins and seed beads from my stash, then Fused around the top to seal it off.  I punched a hole for the ribbons and flower, and it was finished.

{You'll Be In My Heart}

This Valentine card came together so quickly and I love it!  I followed a sketch challenge and a color challenge of gray, red, and kraft (both listed below) which made it even quicker.

I used a bunch of products from My Favorite Things:  Blueprints 27 & 3, Hearts A Plenty Dienamics, Sentiment Banner Dienamics, Pure Innocence sentiment and tiny heart stamps.

For the background, I blended some Distress Ink in a circle, keeping the color most concentrated right where the main circle would be placed on top, then lighter circles all around.  I spritzed it with some drops of water and flicked on some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in a kraft/gold color.

I heat embossed some tiny white hearts onto gray cardstock and die-cut it with a stitched circle.  I layered the other die-cut elements on top, added a few gold and iridescent sequins to the background, and it was finished!

I'm loving my new stamps from {NEAT & TANGLED} and had to play with them again today.  This little cutie is from the "Better Together" stamp set.

I stamped the image onto watercolor paper and painted her with Zig Clean Color Real Brush watercolor markers.  I used the same markers to create the watercolor background.  I heat embossed the stars in white onto a die cut watercolor paper panel, then watercolored on top of them to create the night sky.

I die cut a Spellbinders frame and heat embossed it in silver embossing powder.  I backed it with the "Heart Of Gold" Nice & Neat Die, and I think it looks awesome!  I adhered everything to the panel with foam tape adhesive and added a few sequins and white ink dots to finish it off.

{I Go NUTS For You}

The newest release from {NEAT & TANGLED} is so adorable, I grabbed it as soon as it was available!  This little squirrel, the hearts, and the sentiment are from the new {MY FAVORITE NUT} stamp set.  The awesome geometric heart is from the {HEART OF GOLD} stamp set.

I stamped the images in clear VersaMark ink and heat embossed them with gold embossing powder.  I then watercolors them with Zig Clean Color Real Brush watercolor markers and a paintbrush.  I scribbled the markers onto the background then spritzed it with water to make the colors blend.

I love it.  I hope you do, too!

{DREAM IT then DO IT} a mixed media tag tutorial

It's been a while since I made a mixed media tag and I had so much fun making this one!  I'm hoping to make one each month this year, so stay tuned to see if it actually happens. Heh.

With a few challenges in mind, and a general idea of how I wanted the tag to look in the end, I grabbed my supplies and got to work:

I unwrapped the new-to-me "Three Artistic Butterflies" rubber stamp set from Hero Arts, then got started on the tag itself.  I used a large Ranger manila tag and painted the surface with a thin layer of white gesso paint.  I then spritzed on some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist sprays for overall color.

Once the background was dry, I inked up the butterfly stamps with a Black Soot Distress Ink marker, spritzed the inked stamp with water, and stamped it onto the card.  I used my heat gun tool to quickly dry it.  It dried in a grayish color, so I then re-stamped the images over the top in a darker black ink, slightly offset.

I then stamped the butterflies onto vellum paper, using sticky VersaMark ink, and heat embossed them with white embossing powder. I trimmed around each butterfly and added some small letter stickers to each one to create the sentiment.  I then adhered the butterflies to the tag using some dimensional foam tape.

Next, I used the Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists to color some lace and some seam binding ribbon.  I placed white lace into a plastic bag and spritzed the color inside, with a bit of water, and squished it all around to distribute the color. Since I was going to be adding black spray to it, I did it in the bag to prevent my fingers from getting too stained.  I did not add black to the seam binding ribbon.  I then scrunched up the ribbon, while drying it with my heat tool, and set it aside.

I then gathered all of the I AM ROSES paper flowers I wanted to use and spritzed them to match the tag colors.  This is such a fun process, it's like instant art!  I set the flowers aside to dry.

Once everything was dry, it was time to assemble the tag.  I added some black Distress Ink around the edges of the tag, and also dabbed on some white gesso to the edges and onto the flowers.  I hot glued the lace and ribbon bow and the flowers to the tag and it was complete!

I love how it turned out and I think it's a perfect tag and perfect sentiment for the month of January and the new year!
